Dog Walks at Marford Quarry

Marford Quarry is a nature reserve beside Gresford and Marford, a peaceful place for dogs who love to sniff their way along. Our dog walks at Marford Quarry give local dogs plenty of interest for a curious nose, at a gentle pace.

The route

Marford Quarry is a nature reserve, so it is more about wandering and exploring than covering distance. Dogs who enjoy a slow walk with lots to investigate are in their element.

Because it is a reserve, we choose a pace and route that suits your dog and respects the wildlife. A dog with strong recall and a dog still learning will get quite different walks. The reserve has a network of paths over uneven ground, steep and gravelly in places, and dogs stay on a lead throughout.

Parking

There is space for about six cars on Springfield Lane, just past the railway bridge. If you plan to drive, check what is available before you set off, as a nature reserve is not always set up for lots of cars.

Dogs we walk here are collected from their homes in Gresford and Marford and dropped back afterwards. That way the drive, the parking and the muddy paws in the car are all our problem, not yours.

Dog rules

Dog rules for Marford Quarry are still to be confirmed. As a nature reserve, it may have rules to protect wildlife, so check the signs on the day and follow what they say.

Picking up after your dog is a must. At the meet and greet we ask about your dog’s recall and how keen they are on chasing, which helps us decide how to walk them here.
